Need less developmental support but still want a professional review of your story?
Introducing the tandem edit
The Tandem Edit gives you the best of both worlds: one round of developmental editing and one round of copyediting, perfect for manuscripts that are still in need of guidance but are further along in their developmental journey.
Developmental
Developmental editing focuses on "the big picture" and plays an important role in your story's development.
Your editor will delve into the finer points of your manuscript. In creative writing, this can include examining your story's plot (and potential holes), character arcs/characterisation and thematic coherence, pacing, action sequences, dialogue, how the manuscript handles difficult topics and more.
It's important to note that developmental editing typically occurs before the manuscript is set in stone. Your editor will work with you to refine your story's plot and offer suggestions for your review. These suggestions can come as in-line comments or a developmental report. In my case, I provide both for a comprehensive overview of what is working well in your story and what might be improved upon.
Developmental edits usually include two readings of the manuscript (one to offer suggestions and one to review how the suggestions have improved the manuscript).
Copy/Line
Copy and line editing focus on your writing and play a vital role in your story's overall readability, style and impact.
Technically, copyediting and line editing are distinct services: copyediting ensures that your writing is grammatically correct and free of spelling, punctuation and syntax errors, while line editing goes further, refining sentence structure, flow, tone and style to enhance flow and impact. In my approach, I combine the two, meaning I not only fix technical issues but also elevate your prose, ensuring consistency, clarity and that your unique voice shines through.
Copy/line editing usually occurs once the story itself has been set. Your editor works directly within the text, offering inline edits and detailed comments to highlight improvements and suggest refinements. This ensures your manuscript is both polished and compelling, without altering your story.
Copy/line edits typically include one full read of the manuscript, providing a comprehensive review of both technical accuracy and stylistic quality in a single, efficient process.
Proofreading
Proofreading is typically the final step in the editing process. It focuses on meticulously reviewing the manuscript to ensure it is entirely error-free before printing.
Proofreaders will examine the text for typographical errors such as misspellings, misplaced punctuation, and—if applicable—inconsistencies in formatting.
With strong attention to detail, your editor will read your manuscript word by word and ensure that all lingering errors have been resolved. They may also check that the layout, alignment and typography remains uniform from start to finish.
As copy/line editing will have already been reviewed for grammar and flow, proofreaders review at a high level, correcting only the smallest of errors, such as lingering double spaces, an unindented line or uncapitalised proper nouns.
By ensuring that the document is both visually appealing and polished, you enhance the reader's experience and ensure that your manuscript reflects your credibility as an author.

About Me
My goal as an editor is simple: to help authors refine their writing while preserving their unique voice.
From wandering a circus at night, sailing a small boat with Richard Parker and traversing the Shire with four little Hobbits, I've found my home among the pages of many books and now aim to make each one I work on as equally inspiring.
With a first-class degree in English Language and Literature and years of experience working as an Editor at a publishing house, I decided to dedicate my attention to running my own editorial services business in 2025 and have had the pleasure of working on many inspiring stories since. FAQ
I edit most fiction and non-fiction genres; however, I especially thrive when working with authors who create engaging, layered characters, regardless of genre.
Give me a fantasy villain the reader can empathise with, a heroic sleuth whose moral compass is delightfully flawed, a heroine who struggles despite her best intentions and narrators the reader can never fully trust—I love diving into complexity!
*Each project is unique and therefore has distinct needs, so please use this as a rough guide only!
For every 100,000 words, I will approximately need four weeks of work. Manuscripts exceeding 100,000 words will likely require more time per round. I can provide a more accurate scheduling quote upon consultation.
Maintaining the integrity of your writing's tone is my top priority. My process involves collaborating with you to provide tailored advice and support, ensuring your words resonate powerfully. Whether you need help with spelling, punctuation, grammar, enhancing your narrative's engagement or a professional critique of your story's arc, I am here to assist.
The timeline can vary! On average, my schedule is booked in at least three months in advance, but please get in touch to see how soon we could work together.
